The things you learn, eh!?
Some useless things I've learned recently.

Alan Curbishley's real name is Llewellyn. Growing up in Forest Gate, it's easy to see why he changed it to Alan.

&

Des Lynam is an Irishman. I didn't think there was a man more English than good old Des, but as it turns out, he's from County Clare.

You chaps?

I was surprised when I first discovered George Orwell's first name was Eric Arthur BLAIR and that he studied at Eton.

Could argue he was the ultimate champagne socialist, but that's bollocks as he was a genuine, principled man of his word. Slummed it with poor folks taking on menial jobs and fought on the front line against Fascism in the Spanish Civil War.

A legend of a man.

Eric Blair was a trained assassin, to be unleashed on the Nazis should they ever invade the UK. Part of a special unit.

Alongside Michael Foot.

*struggels very hard to imagine Michael Foot as James Bond*

James Doohan (Scotty in Star Trek) was on Juno Beach and was shot six times, his cigarette case probably saved his life but he lost his finger.

The wonderful Johnners of cricket fame and the Grenadier Guards, was awarded the Military Cross during WW2

A man of anecdote, one of my favourites of his was delivered whilst under officer training at Sandhurst - presented with a hypothetical battle scenario where his armour was confronted by over whelming Panzer odds he was asked what steps he would take

'Bloody great big ones sir, in the opposite direction!'

Come the time he clearly did otherwise
RIP Sir

Upton Park FC won Olympic gold for Great Britain in 1900.

Although they had nothing to do with West Ham United, I will still give us credit for winning both the World Cup and Olympic gold in football.
